Kiani for Troy.

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to put together a logo for a great candidate running for City Council in Troy, NY. At 25, Kiani is a young candidate and needed a brand that was approachable and youthful, but also a commanding foundation for her campaign. Like other progressive campaigns across the country, Kiani needs to both speak to new and younger voters, as well as earn the confidence of older residents. This logo works to do just that.

Not your average candidate, Kiani is a local activist and leader with a background in organizing and urban farming for her community. Earth tones and more natural colors allude to her background in nonprofit food justice, as well as her grounded personality. The brand may be as fresh as the produce she’s harvesting, but it’s not easily brushed aside as flippant or unviable. A bold word mark ensures that everyone will know her name—an imperative for a campaign where name recognition will be a hurdle.

My first foray into political design, it was really rewarding to work on a campaign for a candidate I could get behind. Learn more about Kiani’s campaign platform on her website: https://kiani4troy.com.

UPDATE JUNE 2021: Congratulations to Kiani and her campaign for winning the Democratic primary! This design recently got a shoutout on the Ironweeds podcast where it was described as an integral part of the campaign strategy and credited with helping her win as a first-time candidate.
